Job Description
Role Summary
The Lead Technical Safety Engineer is responsible for leading and managing all technical safety and loss prevention activities across assigned projects. The role ensures compliance with international standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements while safeguarding personnel, assets, environment, and reputation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Leadership
Lead and oversee all loss prevention and technical safety engineering activities for FEED and EPC phases.
Act as the focal point for fire, explosion, and risk management studies.
Provide technical authority and guidance to junior safety engineers.
Interface with multi-discipline teams (Process, Mechanical, Marine, Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation).
2. Loss Prevention & Risk Management
Lead and review:
HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA workshops
QRA (Quantitative Risk Assessment)
Fire & Explosion Risk Analysis (FERA)
Escape, Evacuation & Rescue Analysis (EERA)
Develop fire protection philosophy and active/passive fire protection strategies.
Perform consequence modelling using recognized software tools.
Ensure ALARP demonstration and risk mitigation implementation.
3. Design & Compliance
Develop and review:
Firewater system design basis
Fire & gas detection layout
Hazardous area classification
Safety equipment layout
Passive fire protection specifications
Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., API, NFPA, IEC, ISO).
Review vendor packages for safety compliance.
4. Regulatory & Client Interface
Liaise with classification societies and regulatory authorities.
Support safety case preparation and regulatory submissions.
Participate in client meetings and technical clarifications.
5. Project Management Support
Support project scheduling and deliverable tracking.
Provide technical input to procurement and construction teams.
Assist during site visits, audits, and commissioning support when required.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical, Process, Mechanical, or Safety Engineering.
Minimum 20–25 years of experience in technical safety / loss prevention in oil & gas.
Strong experience in offshore facilities, FPSO, or petrochemical projects.
Proven experience leading safety studies and risk assessments.
Familiar with international standards and regulatory frameworks.
Chartered Engineer or relevant professional certification is an advantage.
