Job Description
The successful candidate will provide microbiological subject-matter expertise within the department, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to support high-throughput microbiological assay testing laboratories. The successful candidate will be part of a specialized dynamic team that interacts with multiple levels and departments throughout the organization to drive change and ensure the high quality and continued supply of life-saving pharmaceuticals to the market.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- The successful candidate will become a subject matter expert on a variety of microbiological analyses of finished products and/or raw materials and may complete entry, review, and/or approval of data in a computerized database.
- The tests and assays are performed as a function of a high output microbiological testing laboratory.
- The candidate will assist in the overall operation of the laboratory including: continuous improvement of current test assays and methods, assisting with development and validation of new test methods, overseeing qualification of new laboratory equipment, evaluation of testing and lab practices against regulatory standards to ensure continued compliance, leading deviation investigations and corrective action/preventative action creation and execution, and creation and revision of standard operating procedures.
- The candidate will be responsible for individual contributions to achieve team deliverables.
- May perform work independently, or as an integral member of a team.
- Interacts with other team members in the laboratory, within the Microbiology department, and with colleagues from other departments (Operations, Quality, and Regulatory).
- Perform and apply independent judgement in the interpretation of qualitative test results and notify Laboratory Management of deviations
- Prepare and analyze samples for indicator organisms, pathogens, and chemistries
- Apply aseptic/microbiological techniques in daily workload
- Conduct additional testing as needed based upon independent review of test results
- Accurately perform final determination of special micros and complete final results disposition
- Communicate results including pathogenic confirmations and maintain a positive relationship with clients
- Report inventory and expendable supplies/materials needed for testing requirements
- Provide routine preventive maintenance by daily cleaning, sanitizing, trash disposal, and equipment quality control.
- Assist in quality duties to by taking incubator temperatures, inoculating control organisms, running media controls, etc.
- Completion of training, facilitation of training and research assignments to include troubleshooting
- Independently pursue an assigned series of processes, procedures, or techniques in accordance policies/procedures and customer requirements and then assist in the development or revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Maintain a high degree of technical competence by reading scientific journals, attending professional workshops, and being aware of food industry issues and trends
- Assisting with managing priorities and schedule such that individual goals as well as team goals are achieved with encouraged participation in the Food Safety Net Services Team
- Responsible for the safety of oneself and others working within their area
- Responsible for the completion of required training
- Review Shelf Life reports and set testing parameters
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
• Min Degree in Biomedical Sciences/ Chemistry or equivalent with at least 2 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical / chemical industry.
• Experience in operating laboratory equipment such as HPLC, GC , KF Titrators.
• Working knowledge of cGMP and regulatory requirements related to Quality is an advantage
• 5 days office hours
