Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer (m/f/d) to support the design, implementation, and commissioning of marine automation systems. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers to deliver high-quality solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
You will take ownership of technical engineering activities, contribute to system design and software development, and support commissioning and service activities both in-house and on-site, including international assignments.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in design and engineering of marine automation systems, including technical documentation and system descriptions
- Develop and maintain project-specific PLC software using IEC 61131-3 languages and HMI solutions
- Test systems, subsystems, and functionalities during engineering phases
- Facilitate technical solutions and support ILS documentation where required
- Participate in internal project status reviews and milestone meetings
- Ensure adherence to quality, cybersecurity, and safety procedures
- Facilitate and participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and supplier FATs
- Provide technical input and advice on design changes and problem resolution
- Execute on-site commissioning, service, and acceptance testing including international travel
- Troubleshoot and fine-tune systems, including testing, calibration, and adjustments
- Create service documentation and technical reports following project execution
- Interact professionally with shipyards, owners, and crew during service activities
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members and stakeholders
- Support continuous improvement of engineering and commissioning processes
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Automation, Maritime Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field
- Solid experience in marine automation, navigation, or OT environments
- Strong knowledge of IEC 61131-3 programming languages (Ladder, Structured Text, Function Block, Sequential Function Chart)
- Experience with automation communication protocols (e.g. RS485, RS422, Modbus RTU/TCP, CANbus, CAN Open)
- Good understanding of sensors, automation systems, and electrical schematics
- Basic network knowledge and cybersecurity awareness in OT environments
- Hands-on, structured, and solution-oriented working style
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools
- Fluent in English and local language (written and spoken)
- Willingness to travel internationally
