Job Description
Designs, analyzes, develops, modifies and evaluates materials, mechanical systems and equipment. Performs feasibility studies, design-margin assessments, FEA/CFD analysis, and empirical validation testing for new and modified designs. Leads or supports architecture definition, evaluates material reliability, and ensures robust product performance through simulation and physical testing. May direct support personnel and/or partner organizations in the preparation of detailed design, design testing, prototype fabrication, and production tooling.
Contributions include applying developed subject matter expertise to solve common and sometimes complex technical problems and recommending alternatives where necessary. Might act as project lead and provide assistance to lower level professionals. Exercises independent judgment and consults with others to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Design mechanical and thermal solutions for hardware systems, electronics enclosures, and related tooling in alignment with engineering best practices.
- Develop and execute test plans, including tolerance validation, form/fit/function checks, shock & vibration testing, EMI considerations, safety and reliability assessments, acoustic measurements, and thermal characterization.
- Perform simulation-based evaluations using CFD, thermal mockups, and structural analysis tools to validate design performance and ensure mechanical robustness.
- Collaborates and communicates with management, internal, and outsourced development partners regarding design status, project progress, and issue resolution.
- Leads a project team of other mechanical hardware engineers and internal and outsourced development partners to develop reliable, cost effective and high-quality solutions for moderately- complex products.
- Represents the mechanical/thermal team for all phases of larger and more-complex development projects.
- Mentor and guide less‑experienced engineers.
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering.
- Typically, 4-6 years' experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficiency in Creo or other 3D CAD tools for mechanical design.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong understanding and experience of electronics packaging, including thermal and mechanical constraints.
- Designing sheet metal and plastic parts, and familiarity with related tooling and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to validate thermal performance using CFD tools and thermal mockups.
- Knowledge in using ANSYS or other structural simulation software (e.g., FEA tools) is advantageous, especially for structural, shock, vibration, or reliability analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluency in English and local language.
- Ability to present architectures, design proposals, and trade‑offs clearly and influence technical direction at management levels.
