Job Description
We are seeking candidates for the position of Research Officer for the Fermentation Biocatalysis and downstream processing team, department of Biotransformation at the Singapore Institute of Food and Biotechnology Innovation (SIFBI). Our R&D focus is fermentation and enzymatic transformation for the production of future food ingredients such as microbial protein/fat and bioactives (e.g. antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, dietary fiber, etc) as well as personal care products. Development of bioprocess is, therefore, a core activity involving fermentation, enzymes production, biocatalysis and downstream processing via green extraction and purification.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Enzyme-assisted pretreatment and transformation of food sidestreams to produce functional food ingredients, personal care products, and fermentation media
- Microbial (fungi, yeast, bacteria and microalgae) biomass fermentation to generate sustainable source of food ingredients and personal care products
- Analyse and report experimental results regularly to supervisor proactively
- Involve in designing and planning of experimental work with the supervisor
- Maintain laboratory equipment and adhere to good lab practises.
- Comply with HSEP (health, safety and environmental protection) and SIFB rules and regulation.
JOB REQUIREMENT
- Preferably hands-on experiences in biomass pretreatment, enzymatic reaction and extraction. Practical experience in microbial fermentation in a bench-top bioreactors is an advantage.
- Strong quantitative data analysis and interpretation skills.
- Experience with analytical techniques like HPLC, Spectrophotometer and Membrane Filtration and Chromatographic Separations is desirable.
- Ability to multitask and work independently after short training.
- Committed to laboratory work and willing to work flexible hours as required.
- Highly motivated with a strong passion for scientific research and technical writing.
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor or master degree in chemical engineering or chemistry or Biological science, Bioengineering or equivalent.
