Job Description
The Junior Director & Writer is responsible for planning, managing, and executing film and video production projects for clients, from concept development through final delivery.
This role combines creative direction, scripting, proposal development, and on-ground production leadership. The ideal candidate is able to translate client objectives into compelling visual concepts, lead creative execution on set, and work closely with both clients and internal teams to ensure high-quality outcomes.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop, manage, and execute film and video production projects for clients.
- Lead the creative vision of productions and direct on-set execution to bring scripts to life visually.
- Guide actors, talent, and crew during production while ensuring creative alignment and smooth shoot operations.
- Develop creative video proposals and concepts that meet client objectives and project requirements.
- Lead and participate in client pitches, presenting creative concepts, storytelling approaches, and production strategies.
- Write clear, creative, and compelling scripts for a range of projects, including narrative videos, commercials, corporate branding videos, interviews, and other branded content.
- Collaborate closely with technical and production teams to achieve the desired visual style, tone, and storytelling quality.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through clear communication, responsiveness, and professionalism throughout the project lifecycle.
- Make key decisions relating to creative direction, budget allocation, production planning, and shot scheduling.
- Stay updated on industry trends, content formats, audience behaviour, and creative best practices to develop relevant and impactful content.
- Provide direction and feedback during the post-production and editing process to ensure the final deliverables align with the original creative vision.
- Work closely with team members, vendors, freelancers, and contractors to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and to APEX standards.
Requirements:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Filmmaking, Mass Communications or a related field.
- At least 2 years of relevant working experience in video production, filmmaking, content creation, or a related creative industry.
- Strong portfolio showcasing previous directing, scripting, or video production work.
- Strong creative storytelling ability with a solid understanding of visual narrative and script development.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Proactive, hands-on, and able to take initiative independently.
- Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Willingness to go the extra mile to ensure project success.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to anticipate production roadblocks and adapt quickly with practical solutions.
- Strong collaboration skills when working with internal teams, clients, and external partners.
