Role Overview
The Head of School (Academic) provides strategic academic leadership and is responsible for driving academic excellence, student achievement, and institutional growth. This role oversees all academic operations, faculty performance, student outcomes, and regulatory compliance, ensuring the school consistently delivers outstanding O Level, A Level, and university progression results.
Key Responsibilities
1. Academic Strategy & Leadership
- Lead and execute the school’s academic vision, ensuring strong O Level, A Level, and university placement outcomes
- Develop and oversee curriculum planning aligned with international academic standards
- Ensure rigorous academic quality assurance and examination readiness
- Analyse student performance data and implement measurable improvement strategies
- Drive a culture of academic excellence and continuous improvement
2. Faculty Leadership & Development
- Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing teaching staff
- Design and implement structured teacher appraisal and performance management systems
- Conduct lesson observations to ensure consistent and high-quality teaching standards
- Provide mentoring, coaching, and professional development opportunities
- Build a collaborative, accountable, and results-oriented academic team
3. Student Management & Pastoral Oversight
- Oversee student discipline, attendance, and overall well-being
- Establish effective student management systems, particularly for international students
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and institutional student management requirements
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
4. Parent Engagement & Stakeholder Relations
- Establish clear and professional communication channels with parents
- Manage parent feedback, concerns, and academic consultations with confidence and care
- Build long-term trust and strong relationships with families
- Represent the school in key stakeholder engagements
5. Admissions & Institutional Growth
- Collaborate with Admissions and Marketing teams to support student recruitment
- Participate in academic briefings, parent talks, and promotional events
- Support branding initiatives that strengthen the school’s academic reputation
- Contribute to strategic growth planning and programme expansion
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or above (Master’s Degree preferred)
- Proven experience in academic leadership, school management, or senior academic roles
- Strong track record in delivering measurable academic results
- Experience managing international students is essential
- Prior experience in an international school or private education institution highly preferred
- Familiarity with O Level, A Level, or international curricula
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
- Results-driven with the ability to lead teams towards clearly defined academic outcomes
