Equipment Engineer – Automation, Controls & Instrumentation
Overview
The Equipment Engineer is responsible for the hands-on support, commissioning, optimization, and continuous improvement of automated manufacturing equipment. This role focuses on Industry 4.0–5.0 automation, machine controls, and industrial instrumentation within a high-reliability manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Install, commission, troubleshoot, and sustain automated production equipment.
Provide hands-on diagnosis and resolution of equipment, controls, and instrumentation issues.
Support implementation and enhancement of Automation 4.0 / 5.0 initiatives, including smart machines, connectivity, and data-driven manufacturing.
Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, SCADA, motion control, and safety systems.
Work with industrial instrumentation such as sensors, transmitters, vision systems, servo drives, robotics, and actuators.
Optimize equipment performance to improve uptime, OEE, yield, and cycle time.
Support equipment upgrades, retrofits, and obsolescence management.
Develop and execute technical documentation including URS, FAT, SAT, IQ/OQ/PQ where applicable.
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with production, maintenance, quality, IT, and external vendors.
Qualifications
Education
Degree or Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Automation, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Experience
3–7 years of hands-on equipment engineering experience in automated manufacturing.
Strong exposure to Industry 4.0, with working knowledge or implementation of Industry 5.0 concepts.
Proven experience in machine controls, automation systems, and industrial instrumentation.
Technical Skills
PLC programming and troubleshooting (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron).
HMI/SCADA systems and industrial networks (Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Modbus).
Robotics, motion control, servo systems, and machine safety.
Strong electrical, controls, and automation troubleshooting capability.
Attributes
Highly hands-on and execution-focused.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Able to work independently in fast-paced manufacturing environments.
Good communication and documentation skills.
Preferred
Experience in medical device, semiconductor, electronics, or other high-precision manufacturing.
Exposure to IIoT, predictive maintenance, MES integration, or smart manufacturing platforms.
Experience in regulated manufacturing environment
