Job Description
The Drama Teacher is responsible to the Head of School for delivering high-quality teaching, learning and assessment within the Drama curriculum, in alignment with the School’s Vision, Mission, Values and strategic priorities.
The role involves planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that develop students’ confidence, creativity, communication skills and performance abilities.
Working closely with the Head of Secondary and Curriculum and Assessment Lead, the Drama Teacher ensures that teaching practices, curriculum delivery and assessment approaches are inclusive, coherent, evidence-informed and responsive to the diverse needs of students.
The role contributes to a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment, while supporting the holistic development of all learners.
The Drama curriculum may include performance skills, improvisation, script work, devising theatre, movement, voice, stagecraft, theatre history, ensemble collaboration and creative expression.
Job Description:
1. Teaching and Learning
§ Plan and deliver high-quality Drama lessons that engage, challenge and inspire students.
§ Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including those with additional learning needs.
§ Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student engagement and well-being.
§ Use a range of teaching strategies to develop students’ creativity, collaboration, communication and performance confidence.
§ Monitor and evaluate student learning through a variety of formative and summative assessment methods.
§ Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student progress.
§ Maintain accurate records of student progress using the School’s Management Information System (iSAMS).
§ Work collaboratively with the Head of Secondary and Curriculum and Assessment Lead to ensure consistency in curriculum delivery, teaching approaches and assessment practices.
§ Contribute to curriculum development and review within Drama, including performances, showcases and creative projects.
2. Student Support and Well-being
§ Promote a learning environment that supports students’ academic, social and emotional development.
§ Monitor student progress and identify individual learning needs.
§ Participate in Pupil Progress Meetings and contribute to intervention strategies where required.
§ Support inclusive practices for students with diverse learning needs (e.g., autism, ADHD, learning differences).
§ Work collaboratively with the Head of Secondary and Curriculum and Assessment Lead to support student development.
§ Contribute to the maintenance of a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment.
3. Assessment & Curriculum
§ Implement school-based assessment and reporting practices in line with curriculum expectations.
§ Design and adapt assessment tasks to meet the needs of diverse learners.
§ Use assessment data to inform teaching and improve student outcomes.
§ Work with the Head of Secondary and Curriculum and Assessment Lead to ensure alignment of Drama curriculum, assessment and reporting practices with whole-school systems.
§ Support the delivery of a coherent and progressive Drama curriculum across year levels.
§ Contribute to curriculum mapping , resource development and performance planning.
4. Communication & Collaboration
§ Work collaboratively with colleagues, including the Head of Secondary and Curriculum and Assessment Lead to support consistent teaching and learning practices.
§ Maintain clear communication with students, parents and staff regarding student progress and learning.
§ Participate in staff meetings, professional learning and school events as required.
§ Engage in professional dialogue to reflect on and improve teaching practice.
§ Support school productions, assemblies, showcases and performance where required.
5. Professional Responsibilities
§ Participate in the School’s appraisal and professional development processes.
§ Engage in ongoing professional learning to enhance teaching practice.
§ Contribute to school programmes such as camps, enrichment activities or holiday programmes where required.
§ Uphold professional standards and act as a positive role model within the school community.
§ Conduct or support 1 ECA per term.
§ Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and inclusive practices to support diverse learners.
Requirements:
§ Minimum Bachelor Degree in Drama, Theatre, Performing Arts, Education or a related field
§ Teaching qualification or relevant certification
§ Experience teaching Drama at the relevant age range
§ Strong understanding of drama pedagogy, performance practice and creative arts education.
§ Ability to differentiate instruction and support students with diverse learning needs.
§ Strong classroom management and organisational skills.
§ Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
§ Commitment to inclusive education and student well-being.
§ Professional integrity and commitment to the values of the School.
§ Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and inclusive practices to support diverse learners.
