Job Description

Primary Responsibility:

To deliver a high-quality Art and Design Technology programme through a dual-language (Chinese/English) immersion model, fostering both artistic skills and linguistic fluency. The Bilingual Art and Design Technology Teacher will also teach some Mainstream Programme Art and Design Technology classes, in English, as part of their teaching load.


Specific Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning:

  • Collaborate with the Head of Department to adapt the established Art and Design Technology curriculum into a cohesive bilingual framework that integrates diverse cultural perspectives and techniques.
  • Within the Mainstream and Bilingual Programmes, deliver high-quality instruction in both English and Chinese, ensuring students develop artistic skills, and technical vocabulary in both languages.
  • Develop current English-language lesson plans and resources into culturally relevant bilingual materials.
  • Use art as a medium for language immersion, helping students achieve fluency through creative, hands-on projects.
  • Integrate Chinese artistic traditions and cultural heritage into the established curriculum to provide a global perspective.
  • Assist the HoD in selecting and procuring bilingual resources, tools, and media that support the dual-language model.
  • Differentiate artistic techniques and linguistic complexity to accommodate varying levels of English and Chinese proficiency.
  • Organise and curate student exhibitions that showcase both mainstream and bilingual learning and artistic growth to the school community.
  • Create a classroom environment that features bilingual signage and multicultural references.
  • Provide regular feedback to the HoD on the effectiveness of the bilingual curriculum and suggest adjustments based on student progress.
  • Collaborate with homeroom teachers to design interdisciplinary projects that connect art with history and culture.
  • Lead art-based workshops for school-wide cultural festivals and events, promoting a deep appreciation for Chinese and global arts.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be an advocate of the school and its decisions during interactions with students, staff, and the community.
  • Lead in nurturing a Lasallian Catholic ethos by building upon the legacy and tradition of the school firmly anchored in Faith, Service, Community, Excellence and Respect.
  • Maintain good working relationships with colleagues and students.
  • Be a role model within the school in terms of professional expertise and conduct and lead by example.
  • Treat others fairly and with respect in order to create and maintain a positive school culture.
  • Build a collaborative learning culture within the school and manage innovation and change.
  • Take on specific tasks related to the day-to-day administration and organisation of the school as requested by the Principal or SLT.
  • Report any matters related to Health and Safety, discipline or personal concerns to the HoD.
  • Report any child safeguarding matters to the designated safeguarding team.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art, Education or a related field, plus teaching qualification
  • 3+ years school-based experience (5+ preferred).
  • Experience supporting Bilingual and Multilingual students and experience teaching students aged 4-12 preferred.
  • Complete fluency in spoken and written Chinese and English.
  • Chinese Artistic skills preferred.
