Job Description

An Audiologist provides care, therapy, and education to individuals, their families, teachers, and/or facilitators to support healthy hearing and communication competency in collaboration with various allied professionals. This involves working in areas such as hearing, auditory function, balance, and related systems through prevention, identification, assessment, and rehabilitation.

S/He serves the needs of individuals from the different sectors within the Canossian Village and the wider community. S/He works collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to provide quality care and contributes to the Village’s efforts in providing an enhanced service delivery through the Canossian Circle of Care. S/He also participates in continuing education and research as needed.

S/He should be collaborative and possess strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Critical Work Functions and Key Tasks

Casework - Assessment and Intervention Planning

  • Conduct assessment to determine child's listening abilities and speech perception
  • Assess classroom acoustics and make recommendations for modifications or improvements
  • Evaluate and manage technology with the goal of ensuring that pupils can use listening to learn
  • Provide recommendations based on evaluation of child’s needs
  • Communicate assessment results, diagnosis, and treatment plans to relevant stakeholders at Individual Educational Plan (IEP) meetings
  • Utilise evidence-based practices for assessment, case formulation and intervention planning

Casework - Delivery of Intervention

  • Fit, validate, manage, and monitor hearing devices through daily hearing checks of students
  • Assist with troubleshooting of hearing devices when called upon to assist
  • Participate in collaborations (e.g., provide consultations, review progress, provide coaching) with relevant stakeholders (e.g., teachers, facilitators and parents) to support child in achieving intervention goals and maximise their hearing within classroom and home settings
  • Equip teachers and/or faciitators with the skills to do daily hearing checks, do basic troubleshooting, use the equipments appropriately, and maximise classroom performance through the use of FM systems
  • Evaluate progress and outcomes using selected outcome measures regularly
  • Modify plans based on child's performance and motivation as well as outcome measures collected
  • Provide secondment/ itinerant services to other schools or centres (including all sectors within the village) via provision of direct audiological services, professional development to staff, caregiver training, psychoeducation of typical and atypical students on knowledge related to hearing loss 
  • Utilise evidence-based practices for implementation of intervention and progress evaluation

Casework – Performance of Clinical Administration and Operations

  • Comply with profession's ethical guidelines and organisation's clinical protocols, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Manage feedback from stakeholders
  • Complete documentations (e.g., treatment plans, progress reports, case notes, case updates to sectors, recording of contact hours for provision of secondment/ itinerant services) accurately and promptly, and ensure they are well-maintained
  • Utilise equipment and resources in a cost-effective manner through managing individual caseload and completion of clinical and administrative work in a timely manner
  • Work within budget allocated for the financial year
  • Furnish one’s caseload, outputs and outcomes for reporting
  • Custodian of audiological equipment and hearing devices e.g., loaners
  • Monitor and maintain assessments, resources and supplies inventory by checking stocks, anticipating needs, placing and expediting orders, verifying receipts

System Work

  • Identify areas of improvement in models of care and service delivery based on evidence-based practices
  • Participate in research and evaluation for programme improvement
  • Participate in sector or village-wide quality improvement projects/ programmes/ initiatives
  • Assist in the planning and/or delivery of trainings/ workshops/ activities/ programmes to meet the learning needs for staff and caregivers

Education and Experience

  • Masters in Audiology
  • Registered with Society for Audiology Professionals Singapore (SAPS)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an Audiologist
  • Understanding and knowledge of service provision for children with hearing loss and their families
  • Prior experience working in a school setting (Preferred)

Technical Skills and Competencies

  • Possess relevant evidence-based knowledge and skills to perform the above job responsibilities with high quality standard
  • Possess knowledge of service provision for children with special needs and their families within the Singapore context (From early years to primary years and across EI, mainstream and SPED settings)
  • Able to translate technical knowledge into practice
  • Able to tailor communication of technical knowledge according to recipient's level of understanding
