Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Early Interventionist (SEI) and working under the supervision of the SEI and Early Interventionist, the Assistant Teacher supports the teaching team to provide quality learning experiences for students and support the best deliverance of the curriculum.
The Assistant Teacher position is catered to applicants who are currently enrolled or are eligible to be enrolled into the Specialist Diploma in Early Childhood Intervention (SDESN)
Key Responsibilities:
Provide Curriculum & Instructional Excellence
- Co-plan lessons and design activities and resources to carry out the lessons effectively.
- Deliver lessons and meaningful activities with appropriate teaching and learning approaches to meet learning needs of students with different profiles
- Adopt developmentally appropriate materials and resources to create quality learning environment
- Implement appropriate modes of assessment, independently or under supervision, to evaluate student needs to develop appropriate individualised learning objectives and outcomes, and for adopting and adapting instructional strategies and accommodations
Facilitate Holistic Student Development
- Build a strong relationship with students by demonstrating care, concern and encouragement so as to build a physically, emotionally and socially-safe environments to enhance motivation and behaviour, and opportunities for learning
- Deliver interventions using appropriate, methods, tools and assistive technologies to support learning under supervision
- Implement positive, robust classroom routines and practices that support student learning and engagement
- Assist teachers and allied professionals to implement student behavioural plans and collect and monitor data and to support interventions
Collaborate for Optimal Student Learning & Development
- Work in partnership with allied professionals and appropriate other internal stakeholders for effective planning and execution of development strategies for the student
- Work in partnership with family members to support student learning across school, home and community
- Assist with the coordination of community stakeholders, volunteers and social service providers to support the implementation of programmes and services
Programme Administration
- Maintain inventories of equipment, materials and supplies
- Manage administrative tasks as assigned by reporting officer
Engage Partners and Stakeholders
- Support the implementation of the Centre initiatives, family and community initiatives and programmes
- Identify areas for improvements for family and community programmes and initiatives
- Support the development of outreach activities to create awareness on the Centre programmes and services
Job Holder Requirements:
- Possess a Diploma/Degree in related field of study (Psychology, Social Work, Human Services)
- Candidates currently enrolled into SDESN or have relevant work experience will have an added advantage
- Able to handle the physical demands of the role, such as lifting and carrying the students and equipment, and cleaning and maintaining equipment and facilities.
