Job Description
Surface Inspection – Examine surfaces (roofs, walls, basements, terraces, etc.) to identify cracks, leaks, or moisture-prone areas before waterproofing.
Material Preparation – Mix and prepare waterproofing materials like bitumen, sealants, liquid membranes, cementitious compounds, or polyurethane according to specifications.
Surface Cleaning & Preparation – Clean surfaces of dust, dirt, grease, or loose particles to ensure proper adhesion of waterproofing materials.
Application of Waterproofing Systems – Apply membranes, coatings, sheets, or liquid waterproofing materials correctly according to the manufacturer’s guidelines.
Sealing Cracks and Joints – Fill and seal cracks, joints, or gaps using appropriate sealants or patching compounds to prevent water ingress.
Layering & Reinforcement – Install reinforcement layers, such as geotextile fabrics or mesh, when required, to strengthen waterproofing membranes.
Curing & Drying Monitoring – Ensure proper curing and drying of applied materials to achieve effective waterproofing.
Safety Compliance – Follow safety protocols, wear protective gear, and handle chemicals safely to prevent accidents or health hazards.
Equipment Maintenance – Maintain tools and equipment like rollers, brushes, sprayers, and trowels in good working condition.
Leak Detection & Repair – Identify existing leaks and repair them using suitable waterproofing techniques.
Coordination with Construction Team – Work with engineers, masons, and supervisors to integrate waterproofing with ongoing construction work.
Documentation & Reporting – Keep records of materials used, areas treated, and work completed for project reporting and quality control.
Quality Assurance – Inspect finished work to ensure waterproofing is complete and meets quality standards.
Customer Interaction – Sometimes explain the waterproofing process and provide maintenance advice to clients or homeowners.
Innovative Problem Solving – Suggest alternative waterproofing methods or materials when faced with challenging surfaces or conditions.Technical Skills
Knowledge of Waterproofing Materials – Understanding bitumen, membranes, sealants, coatings, cementitious compounds, and liquid-applied products.
Surface Preparation Skills – Ability to clean, smooth, and prime surfaces before application.
Application Techniques – Proficiency in applying waterproofing membranes, sheets, liquid coatings, and sealants.
Crack and Joint Repair – Skill in sealing cracks, joints, and leaks effectively.
Mixing & Handling Materials – Correctly mixing compounds to ensure proper consistency and performance.
Layering and Reinforcement – Installing reinforcing fabrics or layers for added waterproofing strength.
Leak Detection – Identifying water penetration points and areas prone to moisture.
Equipment Operation – Using sprayers, rollers, brushes, trowels, and other waterproofing tools efficiently.
Soft Skills
Attention to Detail – Ensuring surfaces are properly treated to avoid leaks.
Problem-Solving – Finding the best waterproofing solutions for challenging or irregular surfaces.
Time Management – Completing waterproofing tasks efficiently within project timelines.
Teamwork – Coordinating with engineers, masons, and other construction workers.
Safety Awareness – Knowledge of safety standards, proper handling of chemicals, and use of PPE.
Communication Skills – Explaining processes and instructions clearly to supervisors or clients.
Adaptability – Adjusting techniques based on weather conditions, surface type, or material used.Hands-on Waterproofing Experience – Minimum 1–5 years working directly with waterproofing systems on roofs, terraces, basements, bathrooms, or water tanks.
Material Application Experience – Proven experience applying bitumen, liquid membranes, sheet membranes, cementitious coatings, and polyurethane systems.
Surface Preparation & Repair – Experience in preparing surfaces, cleaning, sealing cracks, and repairing leaks before waterproofing.
Leak Detection & Troubleshooting – Skilled in identifying water leakage points and implementing effective solutions.
Working in Construction Projects – Experience collaborating with construction teams, engineers, and supervisors on commercial or residential projects.
Knowledge of Safety Protocols – Experience following OSHA or local safety standards, handling chemicals safely, and using personal protective equipment (PPE).
Curing and Quality Control – Hands-on experience ensuring proper curing, adhesion, and durability of waterproofing materials.
Application on Various Surfaces – Experience working on concrete, metal, wood, and masonry surfaces.
Use of Tools and Equipment – Skilled in operating rollers, brushes, sprayers, trowels, and cutting tools for waterproofing work.
Project Documentation – Experience in maintaining records of materials used, areas treated, and work progress for reporting purposes.
