About Tamil Murasu

Started in 1935, Tamil Murasu is Singapore's only Tamil language newspaper. Tamil Murasu is the main information source for the Tamil-speaking Indian community with its coverage of wide-ranging news, from current affairs to local and foreign news, as well as the latest in sports and entertainment, in addition to its strong coverage on news from the Singapore Indian community and South Asia. The newspaper has established itself as a voice for the Tamil-speaking community in Singapore. It also has a robust digital presence and an active website. In addition, Tamil Murasu launched the TM App in late 2024, capturing much of the content created and its social media presence is strong.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Select relevant news and features daily for both online and print
• Help translate news stories from trusted sources for both online and print
• Write using content from various sources such as Press Releases, other publications, etc.
• Write original content such as features, commentaries, op-eds, editorials
• Provide insight on various thematic contents and relevance to TM audience
• Be digitally savvy to use the Content Management System and other related tools
• Review and edit Tamil Murasu’s editorial content for accuracy.
• Craft appropriate headlines and captions in Tamil with relevant details.
• Assist, when required, in the creation of visual content based on the stories
• Ensure the timely filing of the story for publishing

Job Requirements

• Minimum degree/diploma holder from a recognised university/Polytechnic
• At least 5 years experience in communications, policy writing or publishing field
• Good news sense with a good understanding of trending news relevant to Tamil Murasu readers of digital and print versions
• Effectively bilingual in English and Tamil
• Familiar with Tamil translations of official names, terms and technical words
• Familiar with local and regional matters
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Able to work on weekends/public holidays
