Job Description

CINTRA is a French-Singaporean joint research laboratory, a CNRS International Research Laboratory under the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research. It is a collaboration between the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Thales, bringing together researchers and students from France and Singapore. The research focus of this joint laboratory is towards the development of innovative nanotechnologies and nanomaterials for various electronic and photonic applications.

For more details, please view https://www.ntu.edu.sg/cintra.

We are seeking a Senior Research Fellow to develop high-sensitivity, high-resolution perovskite-based X-ray line detectors for security screening, overseeing both scintillator-film (microcolumnar/light-management) and direct-conversion detection pathways. The role will coordinate materials/device fabrication, characterization and imaging validation (e.g., MTF/SNR, low-contrast detectability), align workplans and interfaces across research and electronics/readout integration teams, and drive integration into tile-able submodules and a scanning demonstrator. Responsibilities include technical documentation and delivery of milestones across the 36-month project, plus contributions to publications, IP and grant proposals. Candidates should hold a PhD in a relevant field with strong experience in perovskites and radiation detection/optoelectronics, hands-on fabrication/characterization capability, and excellent communication; relevant radiation/laser licensing is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical execution of the project workplan from requirements/baselining through prototype module demonstration, coordinating with CNRS counterparts.

  • Lead and assist in the fabrication of perovskite/composite scintillator films (optimizing formulation, deposition, optical management, and scalable, repeatable processes) to meet target light yield, decay, spatial resolution, and stability requirements.

  • Lead and assist in the fabrication and microfabrication of direct-conversion perovskite X-ray detectors (engineering materials, interfaces, and device architectures).

  • Lead and assist comprehensive structural, optical, imaging, environmental, and electrical/radiation-response characterization of scintillation and direct-detection layers to quantify performance, stability, and compliance with imaging requirements, with techniques such as XRD, SEM, optical spectroscopy, I–V/C–V measurements, time-resolved techniques).

  • Coordinate with system engineers for system-level integration and testing: optical coupling or charge readout interfacing to commercial line sensors / backplanes, packaging/encapsulation, and final testing and validation.

  • Support end-to-end detector module builds, from materials fabrication through packaging and system-level imaging tests (phantoms, resolution targets).

  • Own project reporting and technical documentation.

  • Mentor and supervise students and junior staff; establish safe laboratory practices for radiation/laser/chemical work, and support procurement and lab operations.

  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams in materials science, physics, and device engineering.

  • Contribute to proposals and IP generation, high-impact publications, reports, and presentations; mentor junior researchers; and support laboratory operations and safety.

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline.

  • Effective problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated at least 5 years of experience in research with the focus on X-ray detection (scintillators and/or direct-conversion)

  • Hands-on micro/nanofabrication expertise: cleanroom processing, photolithography/nanolithography, thin-film deposition of solution-processable materials, and thermal/e-beam evaporation (metals/small molecules).

  • Perovskite materials synthesis & growth capability, including inert-atmosphere glovebox processing (e.g., spin coating), perovskite (nano-)material synthesis, and crystal growth.

  • Experience in perovskite device fabrication (e.g., diodes and FETs), and characterization (I–V/C–V, impedance spectroscopy)

  • Materials characterization expertise (XRD, SEM, AFM, spectroscopy, time-resolved techniques).

  • Strong publication record and experience with proposal writing, technology translation, and IP generation.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to work effectively in interdisciplinary and international teams; independent, proactive problem-solver and team player.

  • Strong presentation and reporting skills to stakeholders

  • Familiarity with laboratory safety management; ability to work in regulated environments (e.g., ionizing radiation/laser/chemical handling).

  • Relevant certifications (NEA N3 and R1 licenses) is advantageous.

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
