Role Overview

This role leads Clapper’s content and intellectual property function, with a primary focus on U.S. copyright law (including DMCA), content licensing, platform compliance, and risk management.

In addition, the role will cover selected general legal responsibilities at the company level, including corporate, transactional, and compliance matters.

This is a hands-on, execution-focused position requiring both strong legal expertise and commercial judgment to support a fast-paced and evolving digital content business.

Key Responsibilities

•Provide legal advice on U.S. copyright law and DMCA framework, supporting platform content governance, takedown processes, and risk management.

•Advise on user-generated content (UGC), copyright infringement issues, and platform liability risks.

•Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including content licensing, creator agreements, and general commercial contracts.

•Establish and maintain contract management systems, including templates, standard clauses, and approval workflows.

•Develop and implement internal policies and processes relating to content compliance, copyright protection, and IP management.

•Support fundraising, corporate structuring, investments, and M&A transactions, including due diligence and execution.

•Oversee corporate governance matters, including board/shareholder documentation and statutory records.

•Lead cross-border compliance initiatives, including data privacy, regulatory, and sanctions-related matters.

•Manage external legal counsel and advisors, ensuring cost efficiency and quality of work.

•Provide practical, business-oriented legal support to internal teams and contribute to legal awareness and training where needed.

Qualifications

•Qualified lawyer with a recognised law degree; admission in Singapore or a common law jurisdiction preferred.

•6–12 years of relevant legal experience in intellectual property, media, entertainment, technology, or platform-related work.

•Strong working knowledge of U.S. copyright law (including DMCA) is essential.

•Experience in digital platforms, content businesses, or tech companies is highly preferred.

•Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and cross-functional communication skills.

•Commercially minded, pragmatic, and able to operate independently in a fast-paced environment.
