Job Description
School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is one of the founding Schools of the Nanyang Technological University. Built on a culture of excellence, the School is renowned for its high academic standards and research. With over 3,000 undergraduates students and 2,000 graduate students it is one of the largest EEE schools in the world and ranks 4th in the field of Electrical & Electronic Engineering in the 2025 QS World University Rankings by Subjects. Today, the School has become one of the world’s largest engineering schools that nurtures competent engineers and researchers. Each year, the School graduates over a thousand students who are ready to take on great ambitions and challenges.
The position will be based at LUMINOUS! Centre of Excellence for Semiconductor Lighting and Displays, a leading research centre under EEE. LUMINOUS! focuses on semiconductor device research, fabrication, and applications in next-generation lighting, displays, and electronics. With state-of-the-art cleanroom and characterization facilities, the centre brings together interdisciplinary expertise in materials science, device engineering, and system integration to address key challenges in energy-efficient and sustainable technologies.

The LUMINOUS! Centre of Excellence for Semiconductor Lighting and Displays at NTU is seeking a Research Fellow (Quantum Optoelectronic Devices & Single-Photon Diodes) to support an NRF-funded project on electrically driven single-photon-emitting diodes based on colloidal quantum wells. The role involves device fabrication, optical-cavity integration, and advanced electrical/optical characterization of quantum optoelectronic devices. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research in quantum photonics, single-photon technologies, and next-generation semiconductor devices.
Key Responsibilities:
Fabricate and process CQW-based optoelectronic devices, including LEDs and electrically driven single-photon diodes (SPDs), using cleanroom nanofabrication techniques (thin-film deposition, lithography, etching, encapsulation).
Integrate optical cavities (e.g., DBR cavities) with CQW emitters to enhance spontaneous emission via the Purcell effect.
Perform electrical, optical, and single-photon characterization, including photoluminescence (PL), electroluminescence (EL), time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC), and g²(0) measurements.
Support orientation control and positioning of individual CQWs for deterministic coupling to optical resonators.
Investigate carrier dynamics and emission coherence in optically and electrically driven single-photon devices.
Collaborate with PI, researchers, and students on device development, data analysis, and interpretation.
Prepare high-impact journal publications, conference papers, and technical reports.
Assist in project execution, reporting, laboratory safety, and mentoring of junior researchers.
Job Requirements:
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, or related fields.
Strong hands-on experience in semiconductor device fabrication, particularly LEDs and nanoscale optoelectronic devices.
Experience with cleanroom nanofabrication (thin-film deposition, lithography, etching).
Familiarity with optical cavities, resonators, or photonic structures is highly desirable.
Experience in optical and electrical characterization, including PL, EL, spectroscopy, and time-resolved measurements.
Knowledge of quantum optoelectronics, excitonic devices, or single-photon sources is an advantage.
Proven track record of high-quality publications and strong scientific communication skills.
We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
