Job Description

The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) provides a vibrant and nurturing environment for staff and students to carry out inter-disciplinary research in key areas such as Computational Materials Science, Characterisation Materials Science, Defence Composite Materials, Functional Composite Materials, Energy, Nanomaterials, Low Dimensional Materials, Biomaterials Materials, Biological Materials, Bioinspired Materials and Sustainable Materials.

The Wu Ronghui Research Group in MSE at NTU is working on cutting-edge research and development in textile materials for personalized healthcare and sustainability. We develop functional fiber materials with specific photonic and electronic properties by polymer molecular engineering and fiber structure design. Together with advanced textile technology, machine learning, and life cycle assessment, we aim to create sustainable wearable systems to enhance human well-being.

We are seeking a Research Fellow to develop advanced thermoregulation fabrics that integrate functional fibers for adaptive heat management. The role will focus on the design, fabrication, and characterization of thermoregulatory textile systems, contributing to NTU’s mission to advance sustainable materials solutions for energy efficiency and human well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop dynamic thermoregulation fabric systems through the integration of functional fibers and advanced fabric architecture.

  • Conduct experimental research on the fabrication, processing, and characterization of thermoregulatory materials, including thermal, mechanical, and optical properties.

  • Investigate structure–property–function relationships to enable adaptive heat transfer through radiative, conductive, and evaporative mechanisms.

  • Develop and optimize stimuli-responsive fibers and fabric systems for tunable and personalized thermal management.

  • Design and perform experiments, analyze data, and prepare technical reports, journal manuscripts, and presentations.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and external partners to advance research objectives and translate concepts into scalable solutions.

  • Assist in supervising graduate students and mentoring junior researchers in the laboratory.

  • Support the preparation of research proposals and contribute to ongoing and new funding applications.

  • Ensure proper laboratory practices, including safety compliance, equipment maintenance, and documentation.

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Textile Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.

  • Strong background in fibrous materials, polymers, or fabric systems, with demonstrated experience in thermal management or functional materials.

  • Hands-on experience in material fabrication techniques, such as electrospinning, wet spinning, coating, knitting, or weaving.

  • Experience with thermal characterization techniques (e.g., infrared thermography, thermal conductivity measurement) and materials characterization (e.g., SEM, spectroscopy).

  • Solid understanding of heat transfer mechanisms, including conduction, convection, and radiation, preferably in soft or porous materials.

  • Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications in relevant areas.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in an interdisciplinary research environment.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Familiarity with programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB) and simulation tools (e.g., COMSOL).
