About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Payment Engineer to own and scale our end-to-end payment experience. This role sits at the core of our consumer journey — from checkout to successful payment — directly driving conversion, payment success rates, and user trust.

You will work across cards, digital wallets, APMs, and BNPL, building seamless, secure, and high-performing payment flows at a global scale.

What You’ll Do

• Own and build end-to-end checkout and payment flows with a strong focus on conversion and user experience
• Integrate and manage global payment methods (cards, wallets, APMs, BNPL) across multiple markets
• Optimize authorization and payment success rates by reducing friction, failures, and drop-offs
• Design and refine 3DS2 and authentication flows to balance risk and user experience
• Develop and maintain payment APIs, webhooks, and event-driven systems
• Partner closely with risk/fraud teams to embed intelligent controls without hurting conversion
• Ensure high availability, low latency, and reliability of payment infrastructure
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and continuously improve key metrics
• Maintain PCI-DSS compliant systems and clear technical documentation

What We’re Looking For

• 3–5 years of experience in payments engineering or consumer fintech systems
• Strong backend skills in Python, Java, Node.js, or Go
• Proven track record improving checkout or payment conversion metrics
• Hands-on experience with payment gateways/PSPs (e.g. Stripe, Adyen, Braintree, Checkout.com)
• Solid understanding of payment flows, 3DS2, APIs, and webhooks
• Strong product sense — ability to balance UX, risk, and performance
• Familiarity with PCI-DSS and secure coding practices
• Experience with cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure) and containerization
• Self-driven, problem-solver mindset in a fast-paced startup environment
• Strong communication — able to work cross-functionally with product, risk, and business teams

Nice to Have

• Experience with global card schemes and APMs (wallets, QR payments, bank transfers)
• Exposure to BNPL integrations and reconciliation flows
• Understanding of acquiring/issuing flows and card scheme rules
• Experience with fraud detection systems (rules-based or ML-driven)
• Background in high-growth startups or scaling fintech products
