Job Description
Role Purpose
Are you passionate about guiding youth and making a lasting impact on their lives? As a Pastoral Support Officer (PSO), you will play a critical role in our Student Management Committee. You will balance disciplinary firmness with developmental warmth, supporting students with additional needs and guiding them through behavioral and peer-relationship challenges.
You will work in close partnership with School Leaders, teachers, and external agencies to build a safe, restorative, and supportive school environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Student Management: Serve as a first responder for student management incidents (e.g., disruptive classroom behavior) and lead investigations into misconduct.
- Restorative Practices: Recommend and implement follow-up actions for misconduct, utilizing Restorative Practice and student coaching.
- Programme Supervision: Supervise and mentor students placed on student development programmes (such as detention, in-school suspension, and GEAR-UP).
- Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with parents/guardians to align student support between school and home.
- External Collaboration: Work alongside external agencies (including the Singapore Police Force, MSF, and Family Service Centres) for complex student cases.
- Admin & Trends: Maintain highly detailed case files for continuity of care, and review disciplinary trends to suggest proactive character development initiatives.
Job Requirements
- Education: Minimum Diploma qualification in any discipline (Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, or Counselling is a plus).
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience working with youth, preferably in an educational, school, or social service setting.
- Soft Skills: Strong conflict resolution skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure. Exceptional interpersonal skills to engage effectively with both students and parents.
- Traits: Possess deep patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for mentoring youth.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office for reporting and tracking student progress.
