Job Description
Responsibilities
Provide support to the Marine Manager as needed.
Assist vessel Masters and crews in operating their ships according to established standards and in compliance with international maritime regulations.
Maintain thorough familiarity with the organization's management system.
Effectively implement the management system across allocated vessels.
Contribute to the development of new procedures or revisions to existing ones.
Promote and support continuous improvement efforts.
Ensure that management system policies, standards, and procedures are consistently applied on assigned vessels.
Verify that vessels meet customer expectations and are prepared for third-party inspections at all times.
Attend vessel calls and assist during inspections when appropriate.
Conduct regular ship visits and ensure that any findings are promptly addressed, coordinating with other departments as necessary.
Perform internal audits in line with relevant procedures.
Foster a strong culture of quality, safety, health, security, environmental responsibility, and energy efficiency across the fleet.
Support Masters in maintaining navigational practices and bridge procedures that comply with regulatory and internal policies, ensuring high navigation standards for the safety of vessels, crew, and cargo, as well as environmental protection and energy efficiency.
Support Masters in achieving the highest standards of cargo operations planning, monitoring, and execution, safeguarding vessel, crew, and environmental well-being.
Identify training needs during ship visits and provide on-the-job training where feasible.
Maintain familiarity with charter party terms and ensure Masters understand key clauses.
Ensure all required navigational charts and nautical publications are available on board.
Track observations from third-party inspections and maintain appropriate records in the designated database.
Assist the Vetting Team Lead in responding to customer inquiries as needed.
Monitor terminal satisfaction reports and letters of protest, ensuring timely investigation of complaints and implementation of corrective/preventive actions, with records kept and the Marine Manager updated.
Conduct briefings as directed by the Marine Manager.
Interview candidates for promotion to Master or Chief Officer, as well as new hires for those ranks.
Carry out accident and incident investigations.
Undertake special projects or tasks assigned by the Marine Manager.
Qualifications
At least two years of seagoing experience in a command position (Master).
Solid working knowledge of international maritime regulations, industry guidelines, and best practices.
Strong operational familiarity with the vessel types under the superintendent's responsibility.
Training, hands-on experience, and auditing skills for internal audits.
Training and proven ability in incident investigation.
Training and practical skills in risk management.
Experience and capability in conducting marine inspections.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Proficiency in the English language.
Background with liquid cargo vessels (e.g., tankers) is highly preferred.
