Job Description: Marine Repair Manager
Position Overview
The Marine Repair Manager is responsible for overseeing, managing, and executing marine repair and maintenance operations for vessels. This role requires strong technical expertise, decisive leadership, and a hands-on approach. The successful candidate must be willing and able to go onboard vessels for troubleshooting, inspection, and emergency repairs, including outside normal office hours when operationally required.
This position is not desk-based and demands practical problem-solving skills, accountability, and the ability to work under pressure in a marine environment.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, manage, and supervise all marine repair and maintenance works for vessels, ensuring compliance with class, flag state, and safety regulations.
Attend onboard vessels for troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, inspections, and urgent repair works, including at anchorage, shipyards, or ports.
Lead and coordinate repair teams, contractors, and service providers to ensure repair works are completed on time and to required standards.
Conduct technical assessments and root cause analysis for recurring machinery or system failures.
Ensure proper repair methods, materials, and tools are used; reject substandard workmanship.
Monitor repair schedules, costs, spare parts usage, and manpower deployment closely to avoid delays and cost overruns.
Liaise with ship crew, owners, superintendents, class surveyors, and shipyards during repair and inspection activities
Enforce strict safety, permit-to-work, and risk assessment procedures during all onboard and yard activities.
Prepare clear technical reports, repair summaries, and follow-up action plans.
Be accountable for repair quality, vessel readiness, and operational reliability.
Requirements & Expectations
Proven experience in marine repair, ship maintenance, or shipyard operations.
Strong technical knowledge of marine machinery, systems, and repair practices.
Willingness to board vessels frequently, including climbing, confined spaces, and working in active marine environments.
Able to respond to urgent breakdowns and operational issues with minimal supervision.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams firmly and professionally.
Detail-oriented, disciplined, and able to enforce standards without compromise.
Good communication skills with crew, contractors, and management.
Comfortable working under pressure, tight schedules, and operational demands.
