About the Role
We are seeking a highly driven, analytical, and commercially savvy Iron Ore Trader to join our expanding commodities desk. In this role, you will be responsible for driving physical and derivative trading strategies, managing risk, and expanding our market presence across global supply chains.
Key Responsibilities (Job Description)
Trading & Strategy Execution: Formulate and execute physical iron ore trading strategies (fines, lump, concentrate, pellets) alongside paper derivative hedging (SGX, DCE,).
Business Development: Originate new physical procurement and distribution deals by cultivating strong relationships with miners, steel mills, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and regional trading counterparties.
Risk & P&L Management: Manage portfolio risk exposures, monitor price volatility, monitor freight/basis differentials, and take direct responsibility for desk P&L.
Market Analysis: Conduct deep supply-demand analysis, track macroeconomic trends, port inventories, and steel mill margins to anticipate market movements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with operations, trade finance, credit, legal, and chartering teams to ensure seamless contract execution and shipment logistics.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience: Minimum 8+ years of active trading experience in physical and paper iron ore markets within a reputable trading house, mining company, or financial institution.
Track Record: Proven, verifiable track record of P&L generation and market origination in the dry bulk / ferrous sector.
Market Expertise: Deep understanding of iron ore pricing mechanisms (Indices, physical premiums, discounts), freight, and derivative hedging instruments.
Network: Established network of relationships with key buyers, producers, and trade counterparties across Asia and global markets.
Technical Skills: Strong quantitative and analytical capability; proficiency in Excel, Python, or specialized commodity risk management systems is a plus.
Communication: Exceptional negotiation skills and fluent English (bilingual capability in Mandarin or other Asian languages is highly advantageous due to key market coverage).
