The Community Worker plays a catalytic role in building connected, inclusive, and resilient neighbourhoods. Guided by the principles of Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), the Community Worker works alongside residents, volunteers, and partners to discover community strengths, mobilise local assets, and support resident-led initiatives that strengthen social connections, collective wellbeing, and community resilience.
The Community Worker adopts a community-led, inclusive, and ethical approach, paying particular attention to engaging residents and clients who may be marginalised or facing vulnerabilities as active contributors in their neighbourhoods. The role also leverages technology, data, and storytelling to document practice, strengthen relationships, and amplify community impact.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Discovering Assets & Building Relationships
- Conduct community walks and engagements to discover and map residents' assets.
- Build trusting relationships with residents, volunteers, and stakeholders.
- Identify and connect residents who are natural connectors.
- Maintain ongoing community relationships.
Mobilising Residents & Supporting Community-led Action
- Co-facilitate conversations that encourage residents to contribute.
- Support resident-led and grounds-up initiatives.
- Coordinate collaborations among residents and partners.
- Apply basic facilitation and peace-making skills.
Inclusive & Ethical Community Practice
- Engage residents from diverse backgrounds inclusively.
- Demonstrate ethical, strengths-based practice.
- Collaborate with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders to strengthen integrated care and service delivery.
Asset Mapping, Documentation & Storytelling
- Maintain asset and household documentation promptly and accurately.
- Manage community resource databases.
- Create communication and storytelling materials.
- Support data collection and learning.
- Degree in Social Work, Community Development, or related fields.
- Diploma in related fields with at least 3 years relevant experience will also be considered.
- 2 years relevant experience preferred; fresh graduates welcome.
