OVERVIEW OF ROLE
The Assistant Director of Finance supports the Director of Finance inoverseeing the hotel’s financial operations, ensuring robust financialcontrols, compliance, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency across allfinance functions. This role acts as a trusted business partner to hotelleadership and department heads, supporting strategic decision-making anddriving financial performance.
The Assistant Director of Finance plays a critical role in maintainingstrong financial governance, developing finance team capabilities, andsupporting operational excellence while ensuring alignment with companypolicies, regulatory requirements, and ownership expectations.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The main responsibilities of the Assistant Director of Finance aresummarised below; however, the list is not exhaustive.
FINANCIAL OPERATIONS & REPORTING
- Support the Director of Finance in overseeing the day-to-day finance operations of the hotel.
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end closing activities and financial reporting.
- Review financial statements and reports in accordance with company policies, GAAP, and Uniform System of Accounts standards.
- Monitor financial performance and support the preparation of forecasts, budgets, and business plans.
- Analyse financial data and provide meaningful insights to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Ensure all financial records, reconciliations, and supporting documentation are maintained accurately.
- Assist in managing cash flow, working capital, and treasury-related activities.
- Monitor departmental expenses and support cost control initiatives across the hotel.
- Ensure compliance with all tax, audit, and statutory reporting requirements.
BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP & COLLABORATION
- Partner closely with department heads and hotel leadership to support operational and financial objectives.
- Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders including Operations, Commercial, Procurement, IT, Human Resources, and Shared Services teams.
- Support communication and reporting requirements for ownership representatives, asset managers, and corporate finance teams.
- Provide financial guidance and commercial insights to support revenue optimisation and operational efficiency.
- Support finance-related projects, system implementations, and process improvements.
FINANCIAL CONTROLS & COMPLIANCE
- Ensure strong internal controls and compliance processes are maintained throughout all finance functions.
- Support internal and external audit processes and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
- Ensure all finance activities comply with company policies, contractual obligations, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify operational risks and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
- Monitor adherence to approval processes, procurement controls, and expense management procedures.
TEAM LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT
- Support the Director of Finance in developing a high-performing and engaged finance team.
- Assist in training, coaching, and mentoring finance team members to support professional growth and operational excellence.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and support employee development initiatives.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, and collaboration within the Finance department.
- Assist in recruitment, onboarding, and succession planning for finance team members where required.
- Assume leadership responsibilities for the department in the absence of the Director of Finance.
ADMINISTRATION & SYSTEMS
- Ensure finance records, reports, and documentation are properly maintained and organised.
- Support implementation and optimisation of finance systems and reporting tools.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of hotel finance systems and operational software.
- Prepare presentations, analysis reports, and executive summaries for management meetings and ownership reviews.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Professional accounting qualification advantageous.
- Minimum 5 years of finance or accounting experience, preferably within hospitality or luxury hotel environments.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience within a finance department preferred.
- Strong financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting skills.
- Excellent knowledge of financial controls, accounting standards, and compliance requirements.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Strong problem-solving, organisational, andleadership capabilities.
